Front Line Assembly - "Mind Phazer"

This is a mix of straight-up sci-fi and the 90s-style hacker culture that I love to bits. This Front Line Assembly video quite iconic, and I think you all need to be exposed to it.

The Crüxshadows - "Cruelty"

Like I've told you before, I'm totally a sucker for 90s hacker culture. As such, I have to show off something with that theme every so often. Here's a video of one of the older songs by The Crüxshadows, "Cruelty", from The Mystery of the Whisper. As far as I know, the song has absolutely nothing to do with the video, but the video is just really fun to watch if you're into this type of thing.

Psy'Aviah - "Virtual Gods"

One band that just doesn't get enough love is Psy'Aviah. These people are experts in regard to making their music have a modern feel. They are really good at being able to convey the cold, dark, urban mood within their music, which they do in "Virtual Gods", but they are no stranger to warmth and fuzzies, either, as is shown in "Song of Independence".

There is a certain sleek quality to the "Virtual Gods" video. It's a beautiful mesh of footage of the anonymity of city life at night and a blend of old-fashioned hacker culture and the consequences of new-style Internet proliferation. The song is seemingly about how modern technological interaction desensitizes people and makes them seemingly lack empathy (with possibly real-world ramifications). I definitely recommend this to any industrial rock fans who want some European flair.

Ayria - "My Device"

So, I decided today was going to be "Ayria Day" for no good reason. As such, you all are going to be treated to her "My Device" video from Flicker.

This is so very cyber. I'm not sure how I feel about the video, itself, because it's very cheesy, but it also brings me tons of nostalgia about old school perspectives on hacker subculture. It's an enjoyable video to watch, because it feels like a kickback to the days of science fiction-like GUIs and dark, underground The Matrix-like hacker fashion. As someone who gets a huge kick out of that kind of stuff, I find the video to be incredibly fun to watch, even though I'm fully aware that not everyone will agree.

As for the song, it's about her learning to break away from and live without someone who has treated her badly. Like most of her songs, there isn't tons of context to sift through, and you can pick out the meaning fairly quickly.
