I sometimes feel like I got a little overzealous with the Tying Tiffany stuff earlier in my blog days, leaving me with less to post. Still, there's plenty of awesome stuff to share from her... because she's awesome.

Voltaire and Ray Toro (Yes, from My Chemical Romance...)

One thing I like about Voltaire is that he's not afraid to do anything, ever. This include making country albums and, in this case, collaborating with someone from My Chemical Romance.

This Hollow Machine - Cycle

This is Chad VanPelt's solo project's first album. If you're expecting something that sounds like Spider Lilies, you'll be horribly disappointed. If you like stuff like Android Lust's instrumentals, then you'll like this.

Alfa Matrix - Sounds from the Matrix 014

So, Sounds from the Matrix 014 is out. I tend to like the Sounds from the Matrix series for new music from Alfa-Matrix, and it's probably my favorite recurring compilation album of theirs. Anyway, here's their Soundcloud streaming of most of the songs. Notable omissions from the stream are Ayria's "Plastic Makes Perfect" and Helalyn Flowers's "White Me In Black Me Out (Extended Club Mix)".

I like how Helalyn Flowers has modernized their sound in this. This song feels like a departure from the mid-2000s futurepop sound of their older stuff. It sounds very clean, very crisp, not minimalistic.

I:Scintilla - "Sequins & Pills"

Whoa, I:Scintilla... This song is -- whoa.

Ayria - "Friends and Enemies"

Of the four tracks for Ayria's Plastic Makes Perfect I've heard so far, this is my favorite. If you're on the fence about buying the album, this should change your mind.

So, about that Tying Tiffany concert + Her ReverbNation "Brain for Breakfast" list

There isn't a whole lot I can say here about the Glasslands concert that would be remotely appropriate to gloss over. Although I expected it to rock, I didn't expect to be completely gobsmacked by it. So, instead of trying to oversimplify, I'll just have to tell you to wait for when I get to doing the full report. You're not going to want to miss it.

Also, I know that a lot of people haven't heard Tying Tiffany's Brain for Breakfast album, because it's insanely hard to find. But it is on ReverbNation. So here's the list:

Flesh Field - Strain

Earlier, I did a review of Flesh Field's Strain album, but here is a link to be able to listen to all the songs on the album. I strongly recommend buying the album, but I also feel one should be able to make informed choices. So here is a link to Flesh Field's MySpace page, and you can listen to the songs, yourself. If you can't afford to buy the album, I still very much recommend "Amoeba" and "The Collapse" if you are just in the mood to buy a song or two. I play those two songs a lot on my playlist.

Helalyn Flowers ReverbNation playlist

Apparently, Helalyn Flowers is doing really well in Italy, being top on the ReverbNation Rome IT Alternative charts. As such, I figure you all would like to see what the big deal is about. My favorite song of the bunch is "Voices", and I think that might be a lot of people's favorite. It's a bit catchier than most of their stuff, which is why I like it. But check it all out.

IMATEM - "Haven (feat. Ronan Harris)"

IMATEM is Peter Spilles's collaborative side project. From Journey is undoubtedly IMATEM's most popular song, "Haven", which has VNV Nation's Ronan Harris. (Note, like I said before in regard to MySpace streaming, MySpace likes to only give you a little circular button instead of a decent banner, like, say, Bandcamp. Ayria - "Hunger"

I thought I posted this before. I guess I didn't. Well, whenever Ayria puts out her Plastic Makes Perfect album, you're in for a ride. "Hunger" has been out for a while, but I just wanted to share this to those of you who might not realize just how great this evolution of Ayria has been. Based on what I've heard so far, I'm liking this just as much as I liked the Debris album.

Ayria - "Missed the Mark"

As an early Valentine's Day gift to her fans, Ayria is going to let you all download a song, "Missed the Mark", from her new Plastic and Broken EP right now, before the February 14 release date if you preorder her EP. "Missed the Mark" is very pop, but I like it.

Detroit Diesel

I know that I sometimes have trouble finding good aggrotech and hard EBM bands and musicians, because there are a number of them out there that make me feel gross inside. There's often a fine line in regard to sound (and a not so fine line in regard to other things) that makes my decision about something great and something deplorable when it comes to this part of the industrial genre. That being said, at least based on what I've listened to so far, Detroit Diesel has ended up on the correct side of things for me.

In particular, I enjoy "All Lost Before Dawn". This is a perfect example of what I like about this band. It feels very much like old-school Funker Vogt with a more light-footed dance feel as opposed to a stompy feel.

Cesium_137 - "Unwanted"

Some of this Cesium_137 stuff reminds me of Flesh Field, except without the female vocals. Although Wikipedia classifies Cesium_137 as futurepop, I have to say there's sometimes a fair bit of aggro to their music, depending on the song. These people seem more like the Apoptygma Berzerk flavor of futurepop as opposed to the VNV Nation type. The song I'm sharing is "Unwanted," which nails you with scratchy vocals and fast beats. The narrator feels rather tossed aside and wants to lash out as a result. (Click on the little triangle in the circle. It's MySpace's bizarre way of making embed code, if you're not familiar.)

This is the post where I talk about Spider Lilies.

A new year is supposed to be all about new beginnings, but I'm going to start off 2013 with a bit of nostalgia.

Who remembers Stacey Campbell, former guitarist and backup vocalist for The Crüxshadows? She had been around for Wishfire, Ethernaut, Frozen Embers, and Echoes and Artifacts. I know I certainly remember her, because she was my favorite member when I first got into that band. I was actually quite sad to see her leave. After she left, I heard a little something about her being in another band, but I didn't keep up with it.

That other band she went to was Spider Lilies, the band she had created before her stint with CXS. She likes to call it "electronic dark rock", although there are a number of people out there who like to stick the darkwave label on the band. Regardless of what anyone wants to call it, it's incredible. It's dark and broody, but the beats aren't lethargic. If you want a good idea of what to start with, my favorite songs are "Mirror in the Dark" and "Nearly Forgotten" from Cyclogenesis, "My Love" and "In the Light" from In the Light, and "Disaster (The Prime Time Player Mix by The Dark Clan)" and "Mirror in the Dark (Clan of Xymox Mix)" from Eyes of the Storm, Spider Lilies's remix album.

I wish the band had more influence outside of Washington, DC. They went to Dragon*Con once, as far as I know, but the band has mostly stuck around the Mid-Atlantic region. They don't seem to play too many shows, either. The last one was on October 27, 2012, at the Multiple Sclerosis Fantasy Ball with a number of other bands. The show before that was in July. From what I understand, they haven't really toured in recent days (if at all).

This band is nothing short of amazing and is on my top five bands/musicians I simply have to see live within the next year (with I:Scintilla, Unter Null, and Tying Tiffany being easily in that list, too, but I'd have to think about who'd take the last slot).
